Creative expression

In this current world, doing nothing is easier than ever. Hold a brick and flick your thumb to mind numbing content. Content content content. It’s short, its fast, and its harder than ever to tell what’s real or not. There’s an odd line between actual creation, and prompt based production.

An artistry that leads you on to an eventual advertisement. Pushing some product, something to buy. Spaces like creating a “blog” are controlled with keywords, search engine optimization profiles, advertisement revenue. And I get it, we all need a source of income to survive. In a certain light this has been great. The boundaries however, remain grey.

What used to be a creative space, for people to share thoughts, ideas, and build communities. Has silently overwhelmed creative expression to a tailored experience. A drive for a form of expression to become noticed and liked. A production line of made up standards.

And that’s never been the point.

It really doesn’t matter what faucet of expression you decided to explore. Or if it changes with time. Thats the whole point. Exploring new spaces, new ways of thinking. Finding communities and building relationships through commonalities. Intertwining an emotion into something that other people can relate to. Not so much that you need it. But you know there’s someone out there that it could inspire, help, or connect with.

Here’s the best part about it. It doesn’t matter if it’s “good”. You might find it to be a great opportunity to explore yourself. Learn and progress something that is genuinely you.

I think a lot of people get caught up in “what am I going to do?” Which is a fair question to ask yourself. The answer is part of the creative process. I’ll use cooking as an example here:

It doesn’t matter if you suck at cooking, is there something you wish you knew how to cook? explore it. Invest small and give it a try. Use what you have, what you can afford. Learn the basics, and see where it takes you.

Cooking turned out to not be as exciting as you thought? Keep exploring.

Take a look around at the items you have, ask yourself why you have them. There’s also nothing wrong with investigating something that once failed. That ratty box sitting in the closest. Give it another try. Maybe that interest happened in the wrong time and space.

Do what you can with what you have.

My final thought on this rant.

No one is going to remember how many things you liked online, what pages you followed, or how up to date you are on viral content.

You’re unique.

You are a creation.

Go explore.
